Lucy The Leader

Leadership, the one who guides or directs the group.

Every herd has its leader, whether its a herd of cattle or a herd of people.  The lead cow serves as the delegate to lead the herd to greener grass, cool shade, water, or even safety.  Our lead cow is named LUCY. She is quite the cool confident leader. When spring comes and the young heifers are bucking about the pasture, Lucy with her gentle but bossy attitude somehow keeps them all moving from pasture to pasture as if she has a predetermined agenda.

As I have sat and watched this peculiar practice, I wonder how do they determine the leader? What establishes this hierarchy of cowlogy. Is there some type of appointment process? Was Lucy born with a silver bell on her neck? Or maybe its just a matter of stepping up to BE the leader. Is it that Lucy knows she can lead and does?  Is that the same confident insight that empowers us to step up and lead in our own lives? And what determines who and when we chose to follow? There are always areas of our life that give us the opportunity to be leaders when we CHOSE TO BE.
