Today’s Footprint is Tomorrow’s Legacy
Webster defines Legacy as an inheritance or a gift pass down from an ancestor or predecessor. Legacy is a GIFT from those who have gone before us. It is handed down from the past to shape our future.
Each day we build our own legacy in little ways through our words, our actions and our attitudes. Most often we are not in tune with what we are building, it just sorta happens unconsciously. I am pretty certain that when my grandparents rolled up to this little spot just off the dirt road, they had no real thought of the legacy they would leave. As with them, most days are about survival and making sure the basic needs are met. The struggles of each generation are not that different since our basic needs are the same; to provide for ourselves and our families and do the best that we can in that moment with what we know at the time.
What CAN be different in this generation is an AWARENESS of the legacy we create and the choices we make. In a fast paced society of media fed ideals of what is normal or right, it takes a deliberate - intentional - choice to determine our own inner compass. Our words and thoughts are powerful! They have the power to tear down or build up. Our attitude is key to both our words and thoughts. What we tell ourselves we will believe!
Each day we CAN be intentional in the legacy we are building by directing our ATTITUDES to be positive, choosing our WORDS with empathy and compassion, guiding our THOUGHTS to be creative and constructive and by taking ACTIONS that will leave affirming results for those who will follow.
To plant a tree that you may never sit under, is to leave a gift for those who will come after us. What tree are you planting daily and what legacy will you leave?
